QSOs for Tuesday

I had a couple of minutes during my lunch break to try to get a quick contact in the log.  I saw that ZD8F was spotted on the DX cluster. I worked them on 10 meter RTTY running split.

ZD8F turns about to be Ascension Island. (I had no idea where this was located.)   It turns out this little island is about 6100 miles away in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in the Southern Hemisphere.

QSOs for Monday

Date Time Call Sign Freq Mode
2011-11-08 02:26 9K2UU 14.255 SSB
2011-11-08 02:17 RX0AT 14.081 RTTY
2011-11-07 22:37 TU2T 14.290 SSB

I made one of my coolest QSOs tonight. I worked 9K2UU (Kuwait) on the second call. I have never heard anything from that part of the world.  I was surprised to hear the great signal on 20 meter SSB after 8pm local time. We were able to have a simple QSO for a few minutes with no problem at all.

Clearly the bands have gotten a LOT better recently in this solar cycle. I am working a lot of new DX stations on a daily basis.

I was nervous that I was not going to get my QSO for today. A busy day at work, an early dinner, run kids to an evening activity, run some errands, pick up the kids and get them home & to bed. I snuck TU2T into the log with the 5 minutes I had before left the house and then put RX0AT and 9K2UU in once the kids were getting ready for bed.

Fun stuff.

Deer Hunting Opener 2011

Some quick camera phone pictures from the hunting trail. On Saturday it was 54 degrees (F) and breezy. On Sunday it was 48 degrees (F) with drizzle and strong winds. It was fun to walk around in the woods in blue jeans. My memories of hunting as a kid are largely tied to freezing my tail off sitting on a stump in the middle of the north woods.

Walking the north woods in in jeans sure beats snow pants and heavy winter boots!

2011-11-04 18:09 D2AM 28.474 SSB

Not much time to play radio today.  While I did take today as a PTO day I needed to run some errands prior to getting on the road with the boys after school to head up north for the weekend.

We will be gone all weekend so I will likely resume the daily challenge of 1 QSO per day (when I am home) on Monday.

QSOs for Thursday

Date Time Call Sign Freq Mode
2011-11-04 02:24 CO6VS 7.0382 PSK31

Today was ubber busy at work combined with trying to take Friday as a PTO day means that I worked late today. I finally shutdown the work laptop around 8:30pm. That made me a little antsy to get at least on QSO in the log ASAP to keep the daily goal alive.

Victor in Cuba was my contact for today on 40 meter PSK.  Victor thanks for being on the air!

It fun working Europe on 10 meters this morning. I had a chance to have a couple of quick ragchews instead of the standard NG0R 5NN TU.

The day off from work was helpful for getting some chore completed around the house and finding a few minutes to emit some RF.

(The times are shown in GMT, but they are all from Monday 10/31 in my time zone.)
